Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi celebrating after taking a wicket - ICC

Shaheen Shah Afridi has become the second Pakistani bowler to take three wickets in powerplay twice in T20Is as he took figures of 3-22 in his four-over spell against Ireland in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 fixture.

The feat was first achieved by all-rounder Imad Wasim who took three wickets in a T20I power-play in 2016 and 2018.

Pakistan pacers Mohammad Amir, Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul have achieved this feat once in their careers.

Shaheen only managed to take one wicket each in Pakistan’s encounters with India and Canada. He went wicket-less in the game against the USA which Pakistan eventually lost.

As for Pakistan playing against Ireland in their last group game of the event, Imad took three wickets and Mohammad Amir grabbed two wickets as the bowlers restricted Ireland to 106/9.

Pakistan are on track to win the game however, it will do no good for the team in the T20 World Cup as they are already out of the tournament and will return home after this game.

Earlier, Pakistan had won the toss and elected to bowl first in Lauderhill, Florida.
